HOW TO GET STARTED

Intake Process

Before enrolling in CARAFAP’s program, an intake screening must be conducted. Intake assessments can be conducted via telephone, virtually or in person at our Columbia location.  CARAFAP must receive a Plan of Care and/or Person-Centered Plan for any DDA or autism waiver service to be initiated.

Our Methodology

CARAFAP provides an array of services for individuals diagnosed with mild, severe and profound intellectual and developmental disabilities.  CARAFAP employs qualified and licensed employees who have the following credentials: PhD, EdD, LICSW/LCSW, LPC, BCBA, SLP, MSW, and BS. CARAFAP offers comprehensive support to its clients, adheres to HIPAA guidelines, and ensures confidentiality practices are upheld. A skilled and/or licensed clinician conducts and completes an intake assessment to explore potential needs and determines the most appropriate services needed for the individual. Professionals employed with CARAFAP have diverse professional backgrounds which make them highly skilled and qualified to provide service. CARAFAP uses a strengths-based approach in order to explore and determine the best services for each individual in care.

What is the autism wavier program?

Through the Medical Assistance Program, the Autism Waiver allows eligible children with Autism Spectrum Disorder to receive specific services to support them in their homes and communities by assisting them in improving social and life skills. Waiver participants are eligible for a variety of services, such as respite care, therapeutic after school services, one-on-one intensive services, family consultation and adult life planning (during their transition phase).

A child may remain in the Waiver until the end of the school year in which he turns 21 as long as the child meets ALL annual eligibility requirements.

How do you apply for autism waiver services?

To be placed on the Autism Waiver Registry, contact the Waiver Services Registry at 1-866-417-3480. The Waiver Services Registry is a list of individuals interested in  and awaiting approval of services.  For more information regarding the Autism Waiver, contact the Maryland State Department of Education at 410-767-1446.

What is COVID-19?

COVID-19 is a contagious and novel virus, and the safety of CARAFAP’s clients and staff is most important and of great priority and concern. Needless to say, CARAFAP is taking the necessary precautions and actions to avoid transmitting and contracting this highly contagious virus, but the virus has no respecter of person. CARAFP is doing all that we can to stay safe, and to help keep others safe. CARAFAP requires all staff to wear masks when services are being administered in the home, office and/or community.  MSDE and DDA currently allow Medicaid providers to render services virtually if requested by a family.
